the rebuilders initiative

The Rebuilders Initiative is a journey of rebuilding at Trinity Grace Church with three areas of focus: our Christmas Offering, Good Neighbors Collaborations, and Foundations Fund. Please join us in giving today!

a time for Rebuilding

2020–21 was a time of challenge and trial for the global community. We are still navigating the ways the landscapes of our lives have been changed.

At Trinity Grace Church, we are grateful to have made it through with so much life intact. But there is much we have lost and much that needs to be rebuilt. We are a people with a vision to join God in the renewal of all things and we need renewal in our midst.

This campaign is designed to rebuild our house here at TGC, to rebuild with our partners who are faithfully and creatively serving our city and world in so many essential places near to the heart of God, and to really lean into being good neighbors as our city rebuilds.

Read below to learn more about each area of focus for The Rebuilders Initiative.

Our Goals

Our goals are to raise $150,000 in one-time gifts and to reach $40,000 in scheduled monthly giving by March 31, 2022.

  • Our first aim is to sow generously into the work of our partners in 2022. The first $50,000 raised will go to their vital work which is worthy of our continued support as they navigate the challenges brought on by the pandemic.

  • Our next aim is to build on that first $50,000 to reach our overall goal of $150,000. After giving first to our partners, the rest of what is raised will enable all our work as a church in 2022 and beyond, including continuing to grow our good neighbor collaborations.

  • We are aiming to reach $40,000 in scheduled monthly giving by March 31, 2022 in order to provide sustainability for our mission moving forward.

Christmas Offering

The first component of The Rebuilders Initiative is sowing generously into the critical work of our ministry partners extending mercy and seeking justice across our city and around the world. We have traditionally done so through our annual Christmas Offering which we are incorporating into the Rebuilders Initiative this year.

The first $50,000 raised in this campaign will go directly to strengthen our partners as they continue their vital work.

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
— Micah 6:8

Good Neighbors Collaborations

One of our prayers the last few years is that we would become more engaged with our neighbors. Thankfully God has given us the opportunity to do that during the pandemic.

Through collaborations with Roots Cafe, Camp Friendship, YoungLives, Trellis, and others, we have had the opportunity to respond to the practical needs of our neighbors, delivering fresh groceries to the homebound, providing winter coats, Christmas gifts, school supplies and more.

In addition to meeting physical needs, we have helped host our neighbors for Covid Conversations, a series of conversations to process our individual and collective experiences in the pandemic.

Through this campaign, we will have the resources to lean into more of these Good Neighbor Collaborations than ever before.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
— Matthew 22:37–39

Foundations Fund

It can be easy to take the faithful presence and witness of the church for granted.

When a person walks through our doors on Sunday, when they venture to ask for help, when they begin to pray, when they entrust their kids to a volunteer, when they hope there will be a another student their age around, when someone tries a small group, or their marriage needs help… these are all the places (and many more) where the church is meant to be.

The financial impact of the pandemic has been significant for our church:

  • Congregational giving is down about one third from 2019.

  • Scheduled giving is down by about $10,000 per month compared to February 2020.

Your giving to this campaign will enable us to keep proclaiming and demonstrating the gospel, and joining God in the renewal of all things. Thank you for believing in our work and investing in our future!

All the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.
— Ezra 3:11

Our Impact from 2021

Giving to last year’s Christmas Offering contributed to:

  • Providing 400 backpacks full of school supplies for under resourced families with Roots Cafe

  • Our investment of $7,500 each in Trellis, Reconcile Brooklyn, and Recovery House of Worship to support their efforts in the community

  • Sponsoring a full week of food pantry and fresh grocery delivery to hundreds of Brooklyn residents through Camp Friendship

  • Through Preemptive Love, providing food, water, and shelter for hundreds of Afghan families who were forced from their homes by the Taliban

  • Relational support provided by Safe Families to help 65 vulnerable families stay together

  • Our investment in the development and formalizing of the Pray March Act coalition

  • A gift to support the September launch of Rhythm Church Chicago

  • A $10,250 donation to support teen moms through YoungLives in Bedford–Stuyvesant
