Safe Families Info Meeting

  • Hope For New York 1166 6th Avenue New York, NY, 10001 United States (map)

Safe Families is a volunteer-driven ministry with the goal of keeping kids safe and families intact. We organize vetted and trained volunteers from local churches to offer individualized support for families in crisis. We aim to offer a broad community of support to those in our city who may need assistance and/or have limited resources. We want the church to become their community as we form extended family-like relationships. Our volunteers seek to empower, encourage, and strengthen families through mutually beneficial relationships.

There are a variety of flexible volunteer roles to come alongside overwhelmed families:

Family Friend - helps parents to increase the stability of their lives, their home environment and their parenting, in order to improve the well-being of their children. They are volunteers who befriend, mentor and support parents through their crisis, helping them get back on their feet and making the home stable for them and their children. They can offer:

  • Moral support and encouragement
  • Parenting support and development of parenting strengths
  • Practical help, such as babysitting or providing transport
  • Connections to community resources
  • Advocacy and accompaniment to appointments
  • Support in setting and achieving goals

Resource Friend - donates and delivers a variety of items (beds, clothes, diapers, etc.) or services (medical care, dental care, counseling, etc.) to families.
Family Coach - coordinates the team of volunteers, making sure that the parent, child, and family friends have the resources needed to thrive.
